Sports & Remedial Massage Level 5

What is Sports & Remedial Massage?

Sports and Remedial Massage is an advanced therapy which includes a range of techniques.  it addresses muscular imbalances due to strain on the body from a wide range or activities including daily activities such as gardening, DIY, repetitive strain from working practices and sporting injuries.

Sports and Remedial Massage has a range of techniques which will remove blockages, damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions which develop as a result of injury or prolonged use in set behavioural patterns.

It is used to treat chronic musculo-skeletal imbalances, strains, sprains, broken bones, bruising or any injury where the skin is intact.  Deep tissue massage removes blockages, damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions left after injury, speeds up recovery and encourages more complete healing.  It is designed to increase the flow of blood and lymph, particularly in the injured areas.

Here are a few of the conditions that Sports & Remedial Massage can successfully treat:

  • Achilles Tendon
  • Tendonitis
  • Shin Splints
  • Groin Strain
  • Cartilage damage
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Hamstring Injuries
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Scar tissue
  • Adhesions
  • Whiplash
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Repetitive Strain Injury

The Sports & Remedial Massage Treatment Session

The client will be asked to complete a detailed health questionnaire and discuss any areas of concern with the therapist.  The client will then remove their clothing down to their underwear and the  therapist will check their posture.

The therapist will discuss the issue with the client and develop a bespoke treatment plan agreed by the client.  A range of techniques will be used depending upon the injury, which will incorporate techniques of varying pressure and throughout the treatment this will be guided by the client's reaction to treatment.

The added value of a Sports and Remedial Massage is the exercise program which can accompany treatment and which, if followed, can hasten recovery time and reduce the risk of re-injury.

Sessions are approximately one hour and clients typically require on average 4 sessions, depending on the severity of the condition.

Level 3 or Level 5 Sports Massage - what's the difference

Only a level 5 (and above) Sports Massage therapist is trained and certified to assess and treat a condition and offer a comprehensive rehabilitation program.  A level 5 therapist may also provide some osteopathic techniques.
