Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle yet powerful therapy that involves tuning into the movements of the bones in the skull, spine, and pelvis to alleviate pain, it aims to improve overall health. Practitioners believe that stress, trauma, and other factors can cause restrictions in the movement of these bones, which can lead to a variety of physical and emotional problems. By using gentle touch techniques, Craniosacral therapists aim to release these restrictions and allow the body to heal itself.

Craniosacral therapy was born out of cranial osteopathy, developed by osteopath William Sutherland in the early 1900’s. He discovered that the cranial bones retain some motion throughout our lifetime and that the movement of the bones in the skull were linked to the rhythmic motion of the sacrum. He called this the core link. He also discovered that restrictions in the bones of the skull could influence the motion of the sacrum and vice versa.

The craniosacral system is the term used to describe the membrane structure containing cerebrospinal fluid, that runs from the sacrum up the spinal cord and around the brain. Cerebrospinal fluid is what protects and supports the brain, bathing it and the central nervous system with nutrients.

CranioSacral Therapy works through the central nervous system and can help in improving function in the whole body.

Craniosacral Therapy can potentially help with:
