Psychosexual Counselling
What Is Psychosexual Therapy?
Psychosexual therapy is a gentle, supportive form of talking therapy that helps people with concerns around sex, intimacy, and relationships. It recognises that sexual difficulties are often influenced by our thoughts, emotions, bodies, life experiences, and the relationships we are in.
Many people feel nervous, embarrassed, or unsure about seeking help for sexual concerns. You are not alone in this — and nothing you bring is unusual or shameful. Psychosexual therapy offers a calm, confidential space where you can talk openly, at your own pace, without pressure or judgement.
What Can Psychosexual Therapy Help With?
Psychosexual therapy can help with a wide range of concerns, including:
- Low sexual desire or differences in desire between partners
- Pain or discomfort during sex
- Difficulties with arousal or orgasm
- Erectile or ejaculation concerns
- Changes in intimacy after illness, surgery, menopause, childbirth, or trauma
- Sexual anxiety, fear, or loss of confidence
- Relationship or communication difficulties around sex
- Changes in sexual needs, identity, or desire
- Concerns around pornography or compulsive sexual behaviours
- Attachment issues and difficulties
- Sexual compulsivity including porn, sex and masturbation
- Sexual diversity including LGBTQIA and GSRD
- Open relationships
- Understanding fetishes and kinks
- Dating and navigating sex and relationships

- Relationship conflict including infidelity, affairs, conflict, and break up
What Happens in Psychosexual Therapy?
Sessions are talking-based and take place in a safe, confidential setting, ONLINE or In-person.
There is:
- No nudity
- No sexual touch
- No physical examination
Where appropriate, your therapist may suggest gentle exercises to explore between sessions, such as communication or body-awareness practices. These are always optional and tailored to what feels right for you.
What to Expect From Your First Session
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and for you to begin sharing what has brought you to therapy. There is no expectation to talk about anything you are not ready to discuss.
We will gently explore:
- What you are experiencing and what you are hoping for from therapy
- Any relevant relationship, emotional, or life factors
- Your pace, boundaries, and what feels safe for you
You can ask questions at any point, and we will talk together about how we might work going forward. Many people leave their first session feeling relieved, heard, and less alone.
Who Is Psychosexual Therapy For?
Psychosexual therapy is for individuals or couples of all genders, sexual orientations, and relationship styles. Your therapist will take into account emotional, relational, physical, and, where relevant, medical or hormonal factors, and may work alongside other healthcare professionals if helpful.
The Aim of Psychosexual Therapy
The aim of psychosexual therapy is not to “fix” you, but to help you understand yourself more deeply, reduce distress or anxiety, improve communication, and rebuild confidence and connection — with your body, your sexuality, and your relationships.
