Kathy Scott is a BACP registered psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist specialising in children, young people and young adults aged 5–25. She holds an MA in Child and Adolescent Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy and is currently undertaking a doctorate in the same field. She also holds a PG Diploma in IAPT Therapies (Autism Spectrum Conditions/Learning Disabilities) and a BSc in Psychology and Counselling Skills.
With many years of experience working in pastoral roles in secondary schools and as a specialist trauma therapist, Kathy brings both professional expertise and genuine understanding of the challenges young people face. She has specialist training in supporting neurodivergent clients, including those with autism and ADHD.
Kathy’s approach is warm, empathic and non-judgmental. She works primarily from a psychodynamic framework, exploring how past experiences influence present feelings and behaviours, while integrating CBT techniques when practical strategies are needed. She believes there is no one-size-fits-all approach — therapy must be tailored to each individual, adapted for age, neurodiversity, and personal needs.
Kathy specialises in supporting young people aged 5–25, particularly those experiencing:
- Neurodiversity — ADHD, autism, and other neurodevelopmental differences
- Anxiety, trauma, grief and loss
- Identity exploration and family issues
- Anyone who feels traditional approaches haven’t quite worked for them
Kathy is passionate about creating a safe space where young people feel genuinely heard and understood, helping them navigate life’s challenges with compassion and respect.
