When LEAF Health opened the Canolfan Brailsford Clinic in Bangor, on the 15th January 2019, it was an opportunity for LEAF Health to offer our services to the wider community, including the students and staff of the university. In addition, we were asked by Canolfan Brailsford to treat the university’s elite athletes. This proved very successful, helping the athletes recover from injury, as well as enhancing their performances and helping them achieve some personal bests!
COVID 19 PANDEMIC
When the pandemic struck the UK in March 2020, little did we all know how much it would impact not only our personal, but also our work and business lives!
It is etched in all our memories that day on 23rd March 2020 when the UK went into lockdown. The decision made by the UK government impacted LEAF Health as much as anyone else, and for a while, everything closed.
In April 2020, when the decision was made that Canolfan Brailsford was to be quickly converted into a Rainbow Hospital, we had to make a dash into the building at Bangor to remove everything from what was our clinic room. Canolfan Brailsford was renamed Ysbyty Enfys and could accept approximately 250 Covid patients. These patients would not be those who needed lifesaving care, for example those needing ventilators, but for those who were seriously ill enough to need ongoing medical care for recovery, or for those who were recovering from Covid.
Bangor University staff and students willingly accepted the call to action during this difficult time with the university Vice-Chancellor, Professor Iwan Davies saying “The University considered it a duty and an honour to be able to contribute to the health and welfare of the community during the Covid pandemic …”
Thankfully, Ysbyty Enfys did not need to be used as a hospital, however, from December 2020 it was used to support the rollout of the Covid Vaccination Programme and administered some 90,000 vaccinations.
Ysbyty Enfys reverted back to Canolfan Brailsford and reopened its doors as a gym and sports facility on the 4th September 2021, welcoming back students and staff of Bangor University and the local community.
LEAF HEALTH RETURNS
The LEAF team are pleased to announce that we too will be returning to Brailsford and have now made preparations for the clinic to open to current and new patients from the 4th October 2021.
Our team at Brailsford will offer a variety of therapies, that include:
Osteopathy with Chris Jones
Chris, who has worked at our Menai Bridge and Llandudno clinics since January 2015, is a really experienced and a well-respected osteopath.
Acupuncture with Arran Waugh
We are very pleased to be able to welcome Arran as the latest member of the LEAF team. Aaron is an established Acupuncturist, who has a particular interest in sports acupuncture, most notably in the many stages an athlete must go through to perform at the highest level to increase performance. He understands that, for athletes to be successful, they must utilise injury prevention and recovery strategies in their training regimes.
Massage, Aromatherapy and Reflexology with Sarah Edwards
Sarah is another new but experienced member of the LEAF team. She is currently in her final year of a Complementary Therapies Degree at Wrexham Glyndwr University. Sarah incorporates postural assessments with her treatments and has a particular interest in Trigger Point Therapy. In her spare time Sarah volunteers for Hope House/Tŷ Gobaith.
Massage, Oncology massage, Indian Head massage, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, and Life Coaching with Lyn Doyle-Taylor
Lyn, an established therapist, has been with LEAF Health since September 2020 and has practised mainly at our Llandudno clinic. Before joining LEAF Health as an Associate, Lyn had her own practice from which she served the community.
