Manual Lymph Drainage
Do you suffer from tired, aching legs?
Do your ankles ever swell up?
Do you suffer from fluid retention?
Then give yourself a tonic with LEAF’s Manual Lymph Drainage, a proven technique for stimulating a sluggish lymph system and removing excess fluid from the body.
Like the cardiovascular system, the lymph system consists of a network of tubes, or vessels that reach all parts of the body, but, unlike the vascular system, there is no organ to pump fluid through them. The body's network of lymph vessels and organs relies on physical activity, the pumping action of muscles and joints in movement and function to drain lymph fluid that has accumulated in the tissues, and return it to the bloodstream so that its volume and concentration remains constant
Every day, as we move through various activities, at whatever pace, we generate by-products of exercise and nutritional consumption, which saturate the tissues and organs and these must be broken down and eliminated from the body if good health is to be maintained. Under normal functioning, the body uses exercise as the motivating force for this process, collecting and removing wastes via the lymphatic organs and vessels. Sometimes, however, this process can be compromised by lack of movement, or injury, or external influences such as extremely hot weather or long plane flights. This is where lymph massage can be particularly useful to give the system the necessary boost. A trained therapist, using Manual Lymphatic Drainage (M L D) can encourage large volumes of fluid to move from the extremities and tissues, through the lymphatic pathways of the body, where it is continually processed and eventually eliminated.
M L D is useful for everyone, even those without fluid retention problems, and can be structured to suit each individual’s needs. Stimulating the lymphatic system can produce the following benefits:
an increase in mobility
reduced fluid retention
improved organ function
reduced muscle tension
relaxed nervous system
improved immune response.
LEAF Manual Lymph Drainage is a specialised form of massage, mainly to the legs but may incorporate the abdomen and pressure points along the spine. The technique uses repeated rhythmic strokes following the direction of the lymph flow and can produce positive effects very quickly. The treatment stimulates the system generally and helps restore proper function to the lymphatic system.
