Remedial & Sports Massage
What is Remedial & Sports Massage?
Remedial or Sports massage is a deep massage done by a trained massage therapist, to create the conditions for the body’s return to normal health after injury or with musculo-skeletal disorders.
It is used to treat chronic musculo-skeletal imbalances, strains, sprains, broken bones, bruising or any injury where the skin is intact. Deep tissue massage removes blockages, damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions left after injury, speeds up recovery and encourages more complete healing. It is designed to increase the flow of blood and lymph, particularly in the injured areas.
Here are a few of the conditions that Remedial & Sports Massage can successfully treat:
- Achilles Tendon
- Shin Splints
- Groin Strain
- Cartilage damage
- Tennis Elbow
- Frozen Shoulder
- Hamstring Injuries
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Scar tissue
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Repetitive Strain Injury
The Remedial & Sports Massage Treatment Session
The client will be asked to complete a detailed health questionnaire and discuss any areas of concern with the therapist. The client will then remove their clothing down to their underwear and the therapist will check their posture.
Oil is used for massage and the therapist will work on the areas of the body that need attention. Although a deep tissue massage is used, the therapist is very sensitive to how much pressure etc the client can take.
Stretches and soft tissue release may also be used and a program of exercises and advice post treatment are given to the client.
Sessions are approximately one hour and clients typically require on average 4 sessions, depending on the severity of the condition.
