Hypnotherapy
This therapy utilises hypnosis, a progressive state of relaxation, which you allow yourself to enter. This enables the unconscious or subconscious part of your mind to learn alternative ways of achieving a desired outcome.
The problem areas and the proposed therapy are discussed, and when you fully understand the procedures, the therapy begins.
In some sessions, you remain quiet during the state of relaxation. This promotes feelings of well being. In other sessions you may be asked to respond, and although you are always in control of what you say, this can helpful for problem solving.

Frequently asked questions
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of progressive relaxation.
Are you asleep?
No, you are not asleep but you feel totally relaxed which is often mistaken for sleep. Sometimes stage hypnotists refer to ‘putting people to sleep’ but this is wrong. If you are very tired and then allow yourself to relax, this can cause some people to fall asleep. It has happened only twice in 10 years in my sessions.
Can I be made to do or say something against my will?
You cannot be made to do or say anything you do not want to. At the beginning of each session the proposed therapy is discussed in full and only when the client is happy and agrees with the therapy does the session continue. The therapist will explain all procedures so that the client does not become anxious or surprised.
Can anybody be hypnotised?
The only people who cannot be hypnotised are people with certain types of mental illness such as dementia. The important criteria for hypnosis are: to want to be hypnotised, to expect to be hypnotised & allow yourself to be hypnotised. You cannot be hypnotised against your will.
Do you loose control?
No, you could, if you wanted to, leave the room at any time, you do not need to be ‘de-hypnotised’. Should you at any time feel that you want to open your eyes– then you can.
Will I reveal any secrets?
No, you will not say anything that you do not wish to say in fact many of the sessions do not require the client to talk and in the other sessions that require an interactive approach, the client is in complete control of what they say.
How many sessions does it take?
This is a difficult question as everyone is different and the problems complex but as a guideline I would expect to complete most problem areas between 3-6 sessions.
How often do I need to attend?
It is usual for the 2/3 sessions to be 1 week apart then, if necessary, spaced apart to suit the therapy and the pocket
